The gas diffusion layer (GDL) is one of the key components in fuel cells (such as proton exchange membrane fuel cells PEMFC, direct methanol fuel cells DMFC, etc.). It is located between the bipolar plate and the catalyst layer. Its main functions are to evenly distribute the reaction gas, conduct electrons, discharge the generated water, and provide mechanical support.
